Here at Olieve & Olie we are excited to introduce our revolutionary ingredient Olive Squalane, which is derived from olives.  It’s known for its powerful anti-ageing properties and will help the skin age gracefully, as well as provide anti-inflammatory benefits, lock in moisture, and keep your skin looking fresh and healthy. Typical Squalene can be found in high amounts in certain fish oils, especially shark liver oil which has been used as traditional medicine for decades, and in smaller amounts within some vegetables. Olive Squalane offers a vegetarian and cruelty-free option to the skincare industry.

So, where does Olive Squalane come from? Virgin olive oil may be refined to obtain refined olive oil. The by-product from this deodorization process is olive oil extract, which is composed mainly of fatty acids, unsaponifiable components and Squalene.  Olive Squalene (note the ‘e’) is the raw material for the Olive Squalane (note the ‘a’). In the process, Squalene is hydrogenated to make it stable. Squalane is a purified, odourless, colourless and hydrogenated (therefore non-oxidizable) version of Squalene.

Protect face oil

Olive Squalane is nature’s most biocompatible plant active equivalent to the Squalene found in the human skin in the skin’s sebum, which is why our skin takes it so well. Human sebum contains 13% squalene as one of its major constituents. As we age, our skin’s Squalene levels start to deplete, making us more and more prone to dryness, dehydration and premature aging. Olive Squalane mimics our own skin’s built-in moisturizer, which makes the moisturising and hydration capabilities irreplaceable ingredients for face oil. This moisturising ingredient is non-greasy, pleasant to the touch, and has a great resistance to high temperatures. Its traits include having excellent spreadability and skin absorption. Given this, these properties make it a popular ingredient in cosmetic products, such as moisturising creams, foundations, sunscreens and other cosmetic products.

Olive Squalane is suitable for sensitive skin, naturally anti-inflammatory, decreasing redness and irritation. It quickly absorbs into the skin and restores smoothness, suppleness and elasticity. This super ingredient delivers oxygen deep into the skin to promote cell rejuvenation and reduce inflammation, thus leaving you with a healthy-looking complexion. It also cancels out damaging free radicals and glycation that contribute to premature aging. While it acts as a barrier to environmental toxins, it protects the skin from moisture loss therefore boosting overall hydration.
