Olive oil is our hero ingredient for many reasons. Firstly, it contains three major antioxidants, Vitamin E, polyphenols, and phytosterols. This means it offers excellent antioxidant protection as when it is topically applied, it can help protect the skin from premature aging. Here, Vitamin E also accounts for the anti-aging benefits of olive oil because it helps restore skin smoothness and protects against ultraviolet light. Secondly is hydroxytyrosol which is a somewhat rare compound that is found in olive oil. It helps to prevent free radical damage to the skin. Not only is olive oil a superfood ingredient for the skin but it also doesn’t clog pores and aggravate existing skin conditions. Instead, olive oil penetrates deeply into the skin while providing a cleansing effect and nourishing the skin.
